I have decided to study Japanese for a number of reasons. One of my reasons stems from the fact that I have been to Japan twice in the last year and half and am still speechless on my whole experience. Everyone in the spectrum from the service industry to people on their day off were extremely kind and helpful. The result of these trips gave way to a desire to learn more about the Japanese culture.
In addition to my above reason, I thought it would be a cool challenge to learn three different alphabets while learning to speak a new language. So all and all I not only want to learn more about this culture but I also want to challenge myself to try a language that is totally unique from my own.
And finally, I have considered the possibility of returning to Japan to live or to visit. I believe that before my next trip I should make a point of attempting as best as I can to become familiar with the local customs and communications (out of respect for my would be host country, Japan).
Up until now the item which has been really challenging is getting used to sentence structure like remembering to use desu or Ka. The hiragana has been ok but I guess we will see if it stays that way.

You're so lucky that you've been able to travel to Japan! Was this through a school program or something or just vacation?
I've never been, but I hope to do the study abroad program in my junior year.

Hey Jessica and Josh,
I didn't actually go with a school group. I went on just for a vacation for the fun of it in the spring of 2008 and then back in the winter of 2009 for an art show.
